Syria and Israel discuss security coordination in Jordan

Diplomacy
Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Mossad chief Roman Gofman met in Jordan to lower tensions after an Israeli strike on a Syrian airbase. They discussed establishing a special operations room in Jordan under US supervision to prevent further confrontations in Syria. It is one thing to have diplomats and intelligence chiefs meeting in a neutral city; it is another thing entirely to make that coordination work on the ground. These operations rooms often look great in a briefing, but they usually struggle when actual field commanders are the ones making split second decisions. Adding US supervision just adds another layer of bureaucracy to a situation that is already volatile.

This mirrors the 2017 de-confliction lines in Syria. Those worked perfectly until a field officer found a target they liked more than the agreement.

The summary misses the fact that Shaibani is tying these negotiations to a complete Israeli withdrawal from Syrian territory. That demand makes the operations room look like a diplomatic facade rather than a security solution.

I question the feasibility of the 'US supervision' claim. Given the proprietary nature of Mossad's operational assets, it is unlikely the US would be granted the level of transparency necessary to actually supervise tactical coordination.

us is currently rationing patriot stockpiles; they lack the leverage to enforce any supervision.
