Federal Forces Recapture Alula Aba Nega Airport in Mekelle

Does this mean the runway is actually fully operational... or is there a chance the infrastructure was damaged before the handover? It would change the logistical value if they have to spend weeks on repairs first...
We saw a similar flip in control during the previous offensive, which ended in a stalemate once the primary road supply lines were cut. Control of the tarmac is one thing, but holding the perimeter is where these gains usually evaporate.
If the perimeter is the real issue, how are they planning to secure the approach roads this time? An airport is a useless asset if the supplies cannot actually move from the runway to the front lines.
I disagree that the roads are the main factor here. If the goal is the rapid deployment of personnel and specific heavy materiel as the post suggests, airlifts reduce the reliance on ground convoys entirely.
The shift in momentum is plausible. An air bridge for heavy armor and supplies bypasses the bottlenecks and ambushes common on the regional road networks.
If the air bridge is the primary goal, would it be possible that the recapture is a lure to draw opposing forces into a concentrated area? A tactical trap might be more likely than a broad shift in overall momentum.
easier for international monitors to land and verify the situation on the ground.
Restoring the airport could potentially allow for the resumption of humanitarian flights. Getting aid back into Mekelle via air would be a significant relief for the local civilian population.
