Just spent some time on the MV Joyita page... it's such a wild case. This ship was found drifting in the South Pacific in 1955 with all 25 people just... gone. The part that gets me is the buoyancy... the vessel was specifically designed to be nearly impossible to sink. So you have this functionally unsinkable boat... and a blood-stained first aid kit left on board... but the crew still abandoned it. Which leads to the actual question... if you're on a ship that literally cannot sink... what could possibly happen that makes the open ocean feel safer? I wonder if anyone has links to other buoyancy failures or maybe other South Pacific mysteries... this is such a strange paradox.

If the cork had shifted, that would actually explain the listing. The crew might have mistaken a shifting ballast for a catastrophic hull breach.
