PhysicsWe are seeing a resurgence in papers claiming quantum coherence persists in warm, wet biological environments. The usual suspects are avian magnetoreception and light-harvesting complexes. It feels familiar. I recall the mid-2000s push for quantum consciousness and similar frameworks; most of those ended up as mathematical exercises with zero empirical legs. The core issue remains decoherence. Biological systems are messy, noisy, and hot, which usually kills quantum states in femtoseconds. Some argue that these systems have found a way to shield coherence, while others suggest we are just seeing classical stochastic effects dressed up in Schrodinger's clothing to secure more funding. Is this a genuine shift in how we understand biological efficiency, or is it just biophysics with a more marketable label?

It is helpful to remember that many of these gains are actually just highly optimized classical pathways. The efficiency we see in light harvesting often aligns perfectly with standard exciton transfer models.
