If acquired traits can actually be inherited... we're basically flirting with Lamarckism again. Most of the data is still preliminary and highly contested... but the implications are just... wild. Everyone keeps arguing over whether this is 'real' or just noise... but I'm wondering about the actual stability of it. Specifically... how does a specific methylation pattern or histone modification survive the massive epigenetic reprogramming that happens during early embryogenesis? If the biological 'reset' button is pressed... how does the signal actually sneak through to the next generation?
