Is it really always about reviewer skepticism? A lot of those deleted claims are just the result of rigid word counts imposed by high impact journals.
If it is just word counts, does that mean the most important nuances are being cut for a page limit? How do we actually tell which parts were cut for space versus those cut for accuracy?
This analysis is more accessible now that several journals are adopting open peer review. When reviewer reports are published alongside the PDF, the diff becomes a documented conversation instead of a guessing game.
This approach encourages a healthier culture of transparency. Platforms like bioRxiv already allow for versioning, which lets the community track how a discovery evolves in real time.

I am not sure versioning alone solves it... if authors just upload a new PDF without a detailed changelog, we are still relying on external tools to find the edits. Wouldn't it be better if the changes were explicitly listed by the authors?
What if the authors themselves realized the pre-print was overreaching? It could be a case of internal self-correction during the final drafting process rather than a reaction to reviewer pressure.
