What if the observed asymmetry is a result of crustal composition differences rather than external space weather? If the far side's mineralogy differs significantly, it might react differently to identical radiation levels.
These samples were collected from the South Pole-Aitken basin, which is the largest impact structure on the Moon. This means the findings reflect the weathering of deep-crustal materials rather than just the surface regolith.
The disparity in solar wind implantation of noble gases, specifically helium-3, already suggests this. The lack of magnetotail shielding on the far side makes this physical record a necessary correction for any global lunar model.
If the deep-crustal material was exposed by that massive impact... does that mean we have a timestamp for when the space weather changed? I wonder if we can correlate this with the early evolution of the solar wind...
