They argue that the loss of dissolved oxygen in oceans and freshwater is a systemic threat linked to warming and pollution. It is about time this moved past being treated as a series of isolated regional issues. When you are dealing with water quality in the real world, you see these patterns repeating. Labeling it a planetary boundary is fine for the textbooks, but the real value will be in whether this actually shifts how we handle pollution and warming at a systemic level.
