New high-resolution images of the sun's surface were published in Nature. These images offer unprecedented detail of the solar atmosphere. Scientists are using the data to study why the corona is millions of degrees hotter than the surface. It is one thing to have a prettier picture, but it is another to actually solve the coronal heating problem. A better blueprint does not fix a foundation if you do not understand why it is cracking. I am interested to see if this level of detail actually leads to an answer or if it just gives us a clearer view of a mystery we still cannot explain.
