Mosaik is a Rust runtime that allows nodes to self-organize into a topology using only a secret key and gossip seeds. It manages peer discovery and Raft consensus groups internally, which removes the need for the extensive YAML configuration typically required for orchestration. The idea of deploying a distributed system on plain VMs without configuration templates simplifies the initial setup significantly. It will be interesting to evaluate how this handles scaling in unstable network environments compared to traditional orchestrators.
