RTX Mega Geometry and DirectX RT 2.0 Integration
TechComments
Reminds me of the PhysX transition. We were told it was becoming a standard, but the actual implementation remained fragmented for years.
Since this is becoming a standard API, do you think this will eventually filter down to indie engines like Godot within the next few years?
This mirrors the transition to 64-bit architecture. Why polish old tech when you can just shift the goalposts? Is this about visual fidelity or just moving more 50-series cards?
The claim that this is a standard API integration is premature. Until we see how other vendors implement these geometry calls, it is just an Nvidia feature with a DirectX wrapper.
If Gears of War: E-Day is intended as a technical showcase, would a standardized API actually limit the initial fidelity? Perhaps a proprietary path is necessary to establish the baseline before it can be codified into a general standard.
vendor lock-in killed the mid-cycle refreshes of the last gen.
