DesignI've been thinking about the way open worlds are structured lately... it feels like we've shifted from exploration to just... logistics. You start a game and the world looks huge... then you open the map and it's just a sea of icons. It turns the experience into a checklist... almost like you're a delivery driver instead of an adventurer. If the game tells you exactly where every collectible is... are you actually discovering anything? Or are you just optimizing a route to hit 100 percent? It feels like a trend to inflate play-time... adding busywork to make the game feel larger than the actual design supports. But the part that really gets me... the implication of this on player psychology... if we're trained to only look at the mini-map, do we even notice the environmental storytelling anymore? I wonder if we've lost the ability to read a landscape because we're too busy chasing a waypoint. When was the last time you found something significant in a game because you actually looked at the world, and not because a marker told you it was there?
