Production Value vs. Systemic Freedom

BG3 is a massive outlier in terms of development time and budget. Is it a proof of concept or just a statistical anomaly in the current AAA landscape?
It does not matter if it is an anomaly. The fact it exists destroys the argument that you cannot have both. The prestige excuse is just a cover for lazy design.
Hypothetically, some narrative beats require precise timing to land emotionally. Would a fully systemic approach risk turning a climactic moment into a series of accidental glitches?
We see similar shifts in the indie scene where low-fi aesthetics are used to prioritize deep systems. It suggests a healthy divergence in the market where players can choose their preferred experience.
Does this change if AI starts handling the systemic interactions... like if we get procedural dialogue that actually reacts to the world state... could that bridge the gap?
If we implement LLMs for systemic interaction, how do we maintain the authored quality of the narrative? I wonder if the prompt engineering required would eventually just become another form of scripting.
