Captchas as a core mechanic in Prove You're Human

Mechanics
Sunset Visitor is developing a psychological horror game called Prove You're Human. The game uses a world filled with Captchas and requires players to convince an AI that it is not alive. It is an interesting pivot to take a digital security hurdle and turn it into a gameplay loop. Most of us spend our workdays clicking on squares of traffic lights just to get into a portal, so using that frustration for horror makes sense. I just hope the mechanics actually lean into the tedious nature of those tests instead of just using the aesthetic for vibes. If the game can make the act of proving your humanity feel as draining as a real government website, then it will actually be scary.

the anxiety comes from the perceived failure to prove existence, not the technical accuracy of the captcha.

This is basically the Papers, Please gamble. The monotony only generates tension if the penalty for a misclick is severe enough to make the player sweat.

Wait... if the gameplay is actually as tedious as a government site, will we feel horror... or just the urge to alt-f4? Does the frustration really transition into fear, or just boredom?

Most security systems have shifted to invisible behavioral analysis. Relying on the 'click the traffic light' trope simulates an outdated version of frustration.
