Chain weapon added to The Witcher 3

Wait... if this was really cut 11 years ago, are they actually using old legacy code... or did they have to rewrite the entire physics system to make it work in the current engine?
I hope this allows for more creative spacing in combat. It could be a nice way to handle groups of enemies without relying so heavily on the Quen shield.
This arrives exactly as the industry leans into 'Definitive' re-releases. It is likely a calculated hook to drive sales for an existing title rather than a genuine archaeological dig into legacy design.
If the original hurdle was truly technical, it would be more efficient to design a new weapon from scratch than to retrofit a decade old prototype. The legacy framing creates a perceived value that a standard expansion addition doesn't have.
We saw this 'lost content' narrative before with the early Blood and Wine builds. Does the chain weapon have unique interaction animations for the bestiary, or is it just a range modifier on existing attack sets?
