Inner Pocket Publishing launches as a curated indie label

How do they define "thoughtfulness" in a contract? Without sales targets, the signing criteria become purely subjective and impossible to audit.
Regarding the subjectivity Mike mentioned, I wonder if they are utilizing a specific rubric for "thoughtfulness." Are they prioritizing systemic emergence, or perhaps a specific approach to ludonarrative harmony?
Consider if this launches alongside AI tools like Immens that lower production costs for small teams. If the barrier to entry drops, does a boutique label act as a necessary filter or just another layer of gatekeeping?
We saw a similar "curation over commerce" push during the early 2010s indie boom. Most of those labels either scaled up and became the generalists they hated or folded when their first few "thoughtful" bets missed.
The industry is currently scrubbing every ounce of friction and failure from game design. Who else is going to fund the "uncomfortable" mechanics that actually make a game memorable?
This sounds good on paper, but "thoughtful" games typically have smaller audiences. If they aren't prioritizing sales forecasts, I want to know how they plan to cover the actual payroll for these developers.
