Let's be honest. We've mistaken a larger skill tree for a deeper game. Most modern titles just stack modifiers on top of a basic loop. They add elemental synergies, gear perks, and sprawling talent grids. They call it complexity; I call it a distraction. If the core gameplay is just 'hit enemy until it dies,' does adding +3% critical hit chance every five levels actually change the experience? Probably not. It's a mathematical illusion. It creates a feeling of progression while the actual moment-to-moment play remains stagnant. We're basically playing spreadsheets with a graphics budget. When did we decide that more menus equaled more depth? Which game did you play where the systems felt like they were just masking a shallow loop? Conversely, what's a game that actually uses its complexity to change how you play?
