Nexon investing $181M in developer ecosystem

We saw this with early engine licensing. Once the publisher controls the toolset, the partnership usually evolves into a mandatory ecosystem where you pay a tax on every line of code.
Does the fund specify if the $181M is equity-based or straight grants? The distinction determines whether Nexon is an investor or just a predatory lender.
Is this actually bridging a gap or just buying loyalty? If the VC market is dead, Nexon isn't saving studios; they are just buying the dip on talent at a discount.
This arrives right as the domestic Korean market is seeing a massive drift toward non-gaming media. It looks less like a global expansion and more like a defensive play to stop local talent from leaving the sector entirely.
That makes the AI focus even more interesting... especially since generative AI tools can drastically lower the head count needed for those smaller studios... Nexon could potentially scale these partners with far fewer people!
