The tension in fragmentary world-building usually rests on the gap between what is recorded and what is omitted. A clinical report that ignores a patient's cause of death suggests a specific institutional failure or a deliberate redaction. This is a functional mystery. The problem arises when the omission is not a narrative choice but a lack of foundational detail. If the reader cannot deduce the basic rules of the environment from the provided artifacts, the atmosphere is replaced by confusion. There is a technical difference between a secret and a void. The challenge is maintaining the aesthetic of the archive while ensuring the internal logic remains accessible. How do you determine when a fragment has provided enough context to be legible without sacrificing the aesthetic of the unknown?
